Mid-century modern custom woodworking, cut by hand.

Right Angle Design Woodworking builds bespoke mid-century modern home and office pieces in ebony, zebrawood, wenge and canary wood, finished with brass, blackened steel and woven fabric. What mid-century modern means at this bench

The period's furniture hid almost nothing. Structure was the ornament: a mitre splined in a contrasting wood, a tapered leg that shows exactly how load travels, a lid whose grain runs unbroken across the carcass. We build that way because it still holds up — the piece reads calm across a room and rewards you up close.

What is new is the tooling and the mix. Laser engraving, modern metalwork and precise milling sit alongside hand planes and cut joinery. Wood is the original plastic — it was the material that could be shaped into anything long before anything else could — so we let the grain carry the design instead of covering it up.

Common questions

What is mid-century modern custom woodworking?

It is furniture and home goods built to the mid-century vocabulary — clean silhouettes, visible joinery, warm hardwoods and restrained metal or fabric accents — but cut to your dimensions rather than a factory's. Every piece we make is drawn for a specific room before a board is milled.

What woods do you work in?

Gaboon ebony, zebrawood, wenge, canary wood, walnut and ebonized oak, with brass, blackened steel and woven fabric as accents. Stock is chosen board by board so the figure lands where a hand will rest.

How much does a custom piece cost?

Small-batch objects in the collection run from about $95 to $850. Bespoke commissions are quoted after we see the room and the dimensions; a deposit reserves your slot on the bench and covers material.

How long does a commission take?

Most commissions ship in four to eight weeks depending on the wood, the joinery and the queue. You get a shipping week at the moment your deposit reserves the build slot.

Do you ship outside Atlanta?

Yes. We build in Atlanta, Georgia and ship nationwide, crated or double-boxed by size. Atlanta-area clients are welcome to collect from the shop.
