Right Angle Design Woodworking is a small urban shop in Atlanta, Georgia, where old school craft meets new school precision. We build mid-century modern home goods from exotic woods like ebony and zebrawood, finished with fabric and metal. Every piece is bespoke, cut for people who value originality and the hands that made it.
Born in the city, built for the city.
We started with a belief that the people who live in urban spaces deserve objects that feel like home — warm, honest and made to last. In a working Atlanta studio, we combine rare woods, natural fabrics and cold metal into pieces that work as hard as the city does.
As a veteran and minority owned business, we know that craft is discipline, and that discipline shows in every right angle we cut. We are not a factory. We are a small shop with big hands and a clear point of view.
Bespoke means made for the piece, not pulled from a shelf.
Every Right Angle object starts as a conversation between the wood and the maker. We do not batch parts. We do not hide joints. We build in small numbered runs so that each piece keeps the grain, fit and finish that only hand work can give.

Mill
Rough stock flattened and cut to dimension, working around the wood, not through it.
Join
Hand-cut joinery with splines, mitres and floating panels that let wood breathe.
Inlay
Fabric, brass and steel set by hand and eye — no templates, no shortcuts.
Finish
Oiled, waxed and signed. Every piece leaves the shop ready for decades of use.

- Exotic wood
- Purple heart, yellow heart, wenge, ebony, zebrawood, mahogany, teak, padauk, bubinga, bloodwood and dozens more. Every color you see is the wood itself — never a stain.
- Domestic hardwood
- Black walnut, curly maple, cherry, white oak and aromatic cedar carry the structure and give the exotics something to play against.
- Fabric
- Canvas, linen, wool felt and cord soften the object and quiet the room. We set fabric by hand so it ages alongside the wood, not against it.
- Metal
- Brass, blackened steel and copper detail. Metal is punctuation, not decoration — hinges, rims, feet and hooks that hold the piece together and give it weight.

Carl works with hand planes and quiet patience. Dominic loads the laser engraver and shapes metal with modern precision. Virgil holds the line between them, making sure the final object is greater than the sum of its tools.

Carl learned the trade from the masters before him, working with hand tools and patience that can't be rushed. In our Atlanta shop, he still chooses every board by grain and feel, turning rough stock into pieces that last generations.

Virgil Pennie
Virgil learned craft from his father's tailor's table and design from his mother's eye. He translates that lineage into mid-century modern form — balancing proportion, surface and detail so every Right Angle piece earns its place before it leaves the bench.
